I want to be Anoop

Anoop Mishra

No matter how many “likes” my wife or I get on Facebook, we always joke that Anoop Mishra will get more.

Anoop is a Facebook superstar.

I can remember the first time I met Anoop.  He was a Birmingham Southern College student interning at Operation New Birmingham (now REV Birmimgham).  He was sitting in his office talking on the phone, typing on his computer, reading War & Peace, and solving a Rubik’s Cube.  I don’t think I’d ever met anyone quite as smart.  I was the Chairman of the Board of ONB and we had a different intern every year—but none like Anoop.

Anoop graduated from BSC, worked for ONB for a while, and left Birmingham to attend the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School where he earned an MBA in Finance.  Then he took a high powered consulting job for Accenture.

But lucky for Birmingham, he came back home and went to work, coincidentally, for one of my best friends, Chuck Ash.  (Of course, I would like to be like Chuck Ash also, but that’s another blog)

Soon Anoop brought Manisha from India to Birmingham to be his wife.  Not surprisingly, Manisha is one of the most beautiful and intelligent women I’ve ever met.

Then he and Manisha created two picture perfect children, Annikah and Adesh—who amazingly are smarter than Anoop.

Anoop not only is bright and has great taste in women, but he’s so darn likeable.

Then he has this talent and knack to write fun and interesting Facebook posts about his interactions with his children.  His posts are clever and interesting and “liked” by most of the Western and Eastern world.  I could cure cancer and I wouldn’t get as many “likes” as Anoop.

So what’s my motive for writing about Anoop?

Anoop is giving the most magnificent gift to his family and children.  His Facebook timeline is a beautiful journey of pictures and narrative about Manisha, Annikah, and Adesh.  Anoop and his family members will have a gift to cherish that will tell the Mishra family story for generations to come.

Anoop’s a special person who is kind and caring and he tries to make a difference every day.  With the ugly events going on in the world today, it’s nice to have a role model like Anoop.

Notice, I didn’t say “I want to be like Anoop.”  I want “to be Anoop.”
